FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 3 spot in this week’s version of the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top 25 poll that was released on Tuesday evening (Jan. 17). This marks the first time all season that the Eagles, who were ranked No. 4 the previous five weeks, broke into the top 3.
Green Bay and Delaware are the two teams ranked higher than FGCU in this week’s poll.
The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.
The Green and Blue are one of two Atlantic Sun Conference team’s represented in this week’s Top 25. Stetson is ranked No. 20.
In the Green and Blue’s last outing (Jan. 14), redshirt-freshman Amber Rechis (Martin, Tenn./Westview HS) scored a game-high 17 points as the FGCU women’s basketball team drained 13 three-pointers en route to a 76-59 win over Lipscomb Saturday night at Allen Arena.
FGCU (16-2, 8-0 A-Sun) will return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they take on the Stetson Hatters (16-4, 7-1 A-Sun) at the Edmunds Center. Tip off in DeLand, Fla. is set for 1:00 p.m.
