Women's Basketball Earns Six Votes in ESPN/USA Today Poll

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women’s basketball team received six of votes to rank No. 31 in this week's USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ Poll that was released on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

This marks the 11th time in program history that the Eagles have earned votes in the national poll. FGCU, who leads the nation in three-pointers made per game (12.2), picked up two votes to rank No. 32 in last week’s poll.

In their last outing, the Eagles knocked down 13 triples, led by redshirt-freshman Amber Rechis (Martin, Tenn./Westview HS) 5-of-7 night, en route to a 76-59 win over Lipscomb Saturday night (Jan. 14) at Allen Arena. Rechis scored 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe, while also adding a pair of assists and a rebound. Redshirt-junior Brittany Kennedy (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark HS/Oregon State) chipped in with 12 points, a career-high eight steals, five assists and three rebounds in 23 minutes. Senior Courtney Chihil (Tipp City, Ohio/Alter HS) finished with nine points, six rebounds and four steals.  

The Green and Blue will return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they take on the Stetson Hatters (16-4, 7-1 A-Sun). Tip off in DeLand, Fla. is set for 1:00 p.m.
