FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team jumped up to the No. 3 spot in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday evening. The Blue and Green ranked No. 4 last week and have grabbed a spot in the top three on nine occasions during the 2010-11 campaign.
The Eagles, the nation’s leader in three-pointers made per game (11.1), are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in this week’s Mid-Major Top 25.
The Blue and Green picked up six votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll to rank No. 33 in the nation and are one of two one-loss team’s represented in the poll (Green Bay; 22-1).
The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.
The Eagles (19-1, 12-1 A-Sun) are back in action Saturday, February 12 when they face the Bears of Mercer (1-21, 1-12 A-Sun) in the first game of a two-game road trip. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can be seen live ASun.TV.
