FORT MYERS, Fla. - The undefeated Florida Gulf Coast women’s basketball team earned the No. 3 spot in this week’s CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday evening. The Blue and Green came in at the No. 3 spot for the seventh consecutive week.
FGCU is one of two undefeated teams remaining in the nation, joining the likes of No. 3 Duke (15-0). The Eagles, the nation’s leader in three-pointers made per game (11.5), are the lone Atlantic Sun Conference team represented in this week’s Mid-Major Top 25.
The Blue and Green, who picked up 16 votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll to rank No. 30 in the country, received two of the 31 first place votes, while Green Bay (28) and Bowling Green (1), the only squads ranked higher than the Eagles, accounted for the other 29 first place votes.
The women's Mid-Major Top 25 is comprised of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast Conference.
The Eagles (12-0 overall, 5-0 A-Sun) will put their 30-game home winning streak on the line on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 7:05 p.m. when they play host to the Owls of Kennesaw State (3-10 overall, 0-5 A-Sun) in A-Sun action.
