FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU women’s basketball team received six votes in this week's USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ Poll and also picked up one vote in the AP Top 25 Poll that was released on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

This marks the second time in program history that the Eagles have earned votes in both polls in the same week. It is also the fourth consecutive week that the Eagles have earned at least one vote in the USA Today/ESPN poll. FGCU earned four votes in last week’s poll (Dec. 28).

The Blue and Green’s one vote in the AP Poll is the fifth time the program has received votes in the national poll. FGCU received one vote in the 2009-10 AP Preseason Top 25 and also picked up a vote in back-to-back weeks in the AP Top 25 to close out the 2008-09 season.

In their last outing, the Eagles, led by five players in double figures and 13 three-pointers, remained unbeaten with a 79-39 win over A-Sun foe Belmont at Alico Arena on Jan. 3. Junior Nicoya Jackson (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs HS/Southwestern Christian) finished with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor and 3-of-7 from long distance. Senior Shannon Murphy (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) registered 12 points, a game-high six assists and four steals in just 26 minutes. Juniors Kelsey Jacobson (Barnesville, Minn./Moorhead HS) and reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Courtney Chihil (Tipp City, Ohio/ Alter HS) and freshman Sarah Hansen (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane HS) each chipped in with 11 points apiece.

The Eagles, who are now 60-7 all-time and 24-5 since moving to Division I in the month of January, knocked down 13-of-36 (36.1 percent) of their three-point attempts on the night, to top their nation leading 11.1 three-point field goals made per game average. The Eagles have drained double digit three-pointers eight times on the season and now have 113 triples as a team. Seven different players made at least one trey for the Blue and Green, led by Jackson’s 3-of-7 night.

The Eagles (10-0 overall, 3-0 A-Sun) will put their 29-game home winning streak on the line on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 5:15 p.m. when they play host to the Bisons of Lipscomb (6-6 overall, 3-0 A-Sun) in A-Sun action. FGCU is one of four undefeated teams remaining in the nation, joining the likes of No. 3 Duke (13-0), No. 6 West Virginia (14-0) and No. 8 UNC (13-0).
