FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU Athletics has announced new three-game ticket packages that are now available to fans for the 2010-11 basketball season - a move that director of athletics Ken Kavanagh hopes will help increase attendance at Alico Arena.
”We hope that this promotion will entice new folks to come out and see our teams in early season games and to witness an exciting product that will lend itself to them wanting to coming back throughout the remainder of the year to join the rest of our great fans in raising their “3” cards whenever we drain a long one. Our women have been amongst the very best 3-point shooting teams in the nation and our men have added a number of new players that we expect to join Reed Baker in producing similar results from the perimeter.”
The FGCU women’s basketball squad’s three-point prowess has been the program’s calling card from day one and the 2009-10 version of the Eagles was no different. The Eagles, led by juniors Kelsey Jacobson (Barnesville, Minn./Moorhead HS) and Courtney Chihil (Tipp City, Ohio/Alter HS), finished the season ranked second in the nation in three-pointers made per contest (10.2) behind Morehead State (10.3). The Blue and Green held a 22-4 record last season when they knocked down more three-point shots than their opponent.
The Eagles’ men’s squad, led by sharp-shooters senior Reed Baker (Naples, Fla./Bishop Verot/Michigan) and freshman Christophe Varidel (Versoix, Switzerland/Worcester Prep), will be looking to make their opponents pay from three-point range. Baker has drained 109 three-pointers in his two seasons for the Blue and Green, while Varidel led his Worcester Prep (Mass.) with 68 three-pointers and a 41 percent clip from deep.
Fans can now buy an It’s Raining 3’s” three-game ticket package. The men’s basketball package allows fans to choose any three of the following games: Southeast Missouri State (Nov. 16), IUPUI (Dec. 27), Belmont (Jan. 3) and Lipscomb (Jan. 5). The women’s basketball pack give fans the option to pick three of the following five contests: Seton Hall (Nov. 12), Troy (Nov. 21), FIU (Dec. 15), Belmont (Jan. 3) and Lipscomb (Jan. 5).
Each “It’s Raining 3’s” pack would cost just $9 and is for general admission seating only.
