Women's Basketball to be Televised on CSS in 2010-11
Wednesday, November 03, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Atlantic Sun Conference and Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) have announced that a pair of FGCU women’s basketball contests will be televised during the 2010-11 campaign, which is the ninth season of a partnership between the conference and the network.

The Eagles will have a TV slate that includes a road contest with the Bruins of Belmont on Monday, January 31 in Nashville, Tenn. The Bruins, who went 15-15 overall (9-11 A-Sun) during the 2009-10 season, welcome the Blue and Green to the Curb Event Center. Belmont will be led by first-year head coach Brittney Ezell and junior preseason All-Atlantic Sun selection Haley Nelson.

The Eagles make their second CSS appearance in as many weeks when they host the defending A-Sun champion ETSU Lady Bucs on Monday, February 7 at Alico Arena. Since FGCU joined the league in 2007, the two squads have stood atop the standings, combining to post a 90-12 record against the rest of the conference. The Eagles and Bucs split their regular-season meetings a season ago, with each winning on their home court. In a battle for first place at Alico Arena last season, the Eagles handed the Bucs their worst A-Sun loss of ETSU women’s basketball history with a 92-55 victory in front of 1,346 fans.

Ranked No.14 in the first-ever CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, FGCU was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the 2011 A-Sun regular season crown as it returns seven players, including three starters from last year’s squad that went 14-0 at Alico Arena. Bumping the current home win streak up to 24 games to close out the 2009-10 season, FGCU’s home winning streak is the fourth longest streak in the nation behind UConn, Stanford and Lehigh. Senior Shannon Murphy (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS), a 2010 preseason All-Conference selection, is the Blue and Green’s top returning scorer (10.7 ppg). The senior ranked first in the conference and 45th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.71), while also shooting .354 from three-point range and leading the team with 33.0 minutes per game.

Aiming for their eighth 21-plus win season and a fourth consecutive bid to the WNIT, the Eagles will tip off the 2010-11 campaign by hosting the Pirates of Seton Hall at 7:05 p.m. on Nov. 12, in the season-opener for both teams.

Single-game and season tickets can be purchased through the FGCU Ticket Office in Alico Arena either in person or by phone at (239) 590-7145. Tickets are also available at www.FGCUathletics.com/tickets.
