TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The FGCU women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season as more than 1,500 fans watched the Eagles fall to the No. 21/24 Florida State Seminoles 81-62 in the Tucker Center.
The Eagles (1-1) are now 0-2 all-time vs. Florida State. FSU (1-0) has now won 15 consecutive season-openers with the win over the Eagles.
Senior Tanae Davis-Cain led the Seminoles with 18 points while junior Jacinta Monroe scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
FSU was in control from the start and never trailed in the contest after they began the game with a 24-2 run. The Eagles cut the Seminole lead down to six points with 13:06 left in the second half, but they were unable to get any closer and fell by the final score.
Freshman Kelsey Jacobson (Barnesville, Minn.) and junior Emma Beddome (Melbourne, Victoria, Austrailia) led the Eagles with 14 points and 13 points, respectively. Jacobson was 4-of-6 from three-point range, a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line and dished out a pair of assists, while Beddome snagged four rebounds.
Junior Brittany Brown (Flint, Mich.) was another bright spot for the Eagles on Sunday afternoon. Brown scored seven points, dished out five assists and pulled down a pair of rebounds.
The Eagles will next take the court on Nov. 26 when they host UC-Santa Clara at 3:00 p.m.
