FORT MYERS, Fla. – Samantha Gray, a 5'11 wing from Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Ark., has signed on as the newest member of the FGCU women's basketball program, head coach Karl Smesko announced Friday.
“Samantha is a versatile player who can do a little bit of everything,” said Smesko. “I think she is a great fit for our style of play and will be very successful in our program.”
Gray was the leading scorer on the squad last season and led the team in rebounds and blocked shots. She is a three-time Class 5A All-Conference selection, a three-time Southwest Times Record All-Area team selection, a two-time Class 5A All-State selection and a two-time Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Northwest Arkansas team selection. Gray was also a McDonalds All-American nominee.
A three-year varsity starter, Gray led Greenwood by averaging 14.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists for head coach Clay Reeves. Gray has had success off the basketball court as well. She is a member of the National Honor Society and lettered in softball in track in high school.
Smesko and the Eagles finished with a 22-9 record and notched the program’s fourth consecutive 20-win season during the 2007-08 campaign.
