Ashley Haegele scored a career-high 24 points and knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers in the Eagles 74-67 win over Mercer.
MACON, Ga. – Ashley Haegele recorded a career-high 24 points as the FGCU women's basketball team got back to their winning ways and defeated Mercer 74-67.
After pulling ahead 2-0, in the first 23 seconds of the game, the Eagles shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the floor, including 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from the three-point line, to stay ahead and defeat the Bears for their tenth win in their last 11 games .
With the win, FGCU improves to 15-8 overall (10-3 A-Sun), while the Bears fall to 4-22 overall (1-12 A-Sun).
Three Eagles scored in double-figures, led by Haegele’s (Imperial, Mo.) 24 points. For the game, Haegele made 8-of-13 attempts from the field, including a career-high five 3-pointers. She also had two rebounds and two steals.
Delia De La Torre (Las Cruces, N.M.) tallied 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. De La Torre also added seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Chelsea Dermyer (Fort Collins, Col.) registered 10 points, five assists, four rebounds two steals and a block in 34 minutes of action.
Mercer was led by LaToya Jackson’s 15 points.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they travel to DeLand, Fla. to take on the Stetson Hatters. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
