Women's Basketball Team Now Ranked 14th

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team jumped one place to No. 14 in this week’s USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday night. FGCU improved to 16-1 with a 70-28 win over the University of Puerto Rico on Sunday night in its only contest during the past week. The Eagles continue their six-game road trip with a game at Columbia Union College on Thursday in Takoma Park, Maryland and a game Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C. at the University of District of Columbia. The games mark their first non-South Region games for FGCU this season. Washburn (16-0) received 23 of the 25 first-place votes to remain No. 1. The University of North Dakota - Grand Forks (20-0) and Emporia State (16-1) remain second and third. Saint Cloud State (17-0) and Drury (14-1) switched positions and are now fourth and fifth. FGCU, with 266 total points in the voting, was one point behind Grand Valley State for the No. 13 spot. Five South Region teams continue to be represented in the national poll. Henderson State (15-1) is No. 8, Rollins (13-0) is No. 10, while Delta State has jumped to No. 15 and Valdosta State (12-4) remains No. 22. The USA Today ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 27 head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The first NCAA Division II regional rankings will be released later this month.
