FGCU Women 15th in Division II National Poll

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team has jumped to No. 15 in the Week Six USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon. FGCU won its only game last week, knocking off Division II South Region foe Florida Southern College 69-51 on Saturday night to improve to 15-1 on the season. This week, the Eagles only contest will be at the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey. FGCU faces Cayey on Sunday afternoon. Washburn (14-0) received 22 of the 24 first-place votes to remain No. 1. The University of North Dakota- Grand Forks (18-0), Emporia State (15-0), and Drury (12-1) remain unchanged in the top four spots. Saint Cloud State University (15-0) moves up from sixth to fifth. FGCU, which received 261 total points in the voting, was one of five South Region teams represented in the poll. Henderson State (13-1) remains No.8 while Rollins (11-0) moved into the top ten for the first time. Delta State (10-2) remains in the No. 18 spot while Valdosta State (10-4) dropped one spot to No. 22. The USA Today ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 27 head coaches at Division II institutions. All are members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The first NCAA Division II regional rankings will be released later this month.
