FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball team continued their record scoring pace as they ran away from an out-manned University of Puerto Rico – Cayey 109-34 in NCAA Division II South Region action at Alico Arena Tuesday night. Four players scored in double figures and 11 players scored in all as FGCU topped the single-game mark for points in a game set last Saturday night in the home opener. Junior forward Jen Conely poured in a game-high 36 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 shooting from the foul line. Conely, who hit a record eight three-pointers in the game, fell two points shy of the school record for points in a single-game set last year by former Eagles standout Andrea Clarke. Junior forward Shonna Soeby had 14 points while freshman forward Candace Carreras added 13 points off the bench for FGCU (3-0), which scored 56 points off Cayey turnovers. Junior forwards Alex Nelson and Katie Schrader added 10 points each. Puerto Rico-Cayey (0-5) was led by eight points apiece from Jazmin Lebron and Nancy DeArmas. The two teams meet again Wednesday at 5 p.m.
