ATHENS, Ga. – Looking to improve their personal best times, Emma Svensson (Upsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) and  Nina Schiffer (Dortmund, Germany/SG Dortmund) of the FGCU swimming & diving team did just at the Bulldog Last Chance Invitational on the campus of the University of Georgia this past weekend.

Looking to earn another trip to the NCAA Championships, Svensson’s performance in the 50-yard freestyle this weekend may guide her back there. Clocking a personal-best 22.34, Svensson’s time is an FGCU program record, a Swedish national record and an NCAA B cut. In the 100-yard freestyle, the junior touched in 49.80 seconds, an NCAA B cut and just 0.36 of a second behind the program record 49.44 she set in 2012.

Racing two butterfly events was Schiffer. In the 100-yard race, Schiffer finished in a lifetime-best 55.39, and a 1:59.62 in the 200-yard race, the second fastest of her lifetime.

The 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships are slated for Mar. 20-22. Invitations will be announced Mar. 5.
