FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s swimming and diving team looks to extend its 20-meet Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) conference winning streak this Monday when it hosts Radford in a dual meet at the FGCU Aquatics Center at 3 p.m.
Since joining the CCSA in 2007, the Eagles are 22-1 in conference action with its only loss coming at the hands of Georgia Southern back on Jan. 19, 2008.
The Green and Blue were last in action Saturday when they defeated CCSA opponents Georgia Southern (243-56), Liberty (214-79) and the University of North Dakota (236-63), who compete in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Eagles are 5-2 this season with the other two wins coming against ACC opponents Miami and Georgia Tech.
FGCU is ranked No. 10 in the second edition of the CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Division I Swimming Poll and is the only team in the CCSA ranked in the Top 25. The Eagles were ranked No. 8 in the first edition of the poll.
All-time, the Green and Blue are a perfect 4-0 against Radford. The Highlanders come into Monday with a 4-5 dual meet record, with wins coming against North Carolina A&T, UNC Asheville, Brenau University and South Georgia State. Last time out, Radford defeated South Georgia State, 172-46, and lost to North Florida, 180-61, in a tri-meet in Jacksonville, Fla. last Saturday.
In the quad-meet last Saturday, the Eagles picked up 10 first-place victories, including two new pool records in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay events. The team of sophomore Emma Svensson (Upsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan), and seniors Danielle Beaubrun (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/Bolles School), Shannon Blizzard (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) and Megan Wolfe (Sebring, Fla./Sebring HS/Daytona State College) finished with a time of 1:43.77 and won the 200-yard medley relay event.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Svennson, Wolfe, senior Eva Lehtonen (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS/Florida) and freshman Jennifer Morgan (Edmonton, Alberta/Harry Ainlay) set a new pool record with a time of 1:34.85.
