FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU Softball team has announced dates for upcoming summer camps.  The team will offer advanced camps for hitting, defense and pitching and will present an all-skills camp for players with limited softball experience.

The camp for experienced softball players, ages 13 and older will take place June 9-11, with the all-skills camp scheduled for July 14-16. FGCU head coach David Deiros will host the camp, with assistant coach Alycia Bachkora and members of the 2014 squad assisting with instruction.

The camp will provide well-rounded instruction of the game with an enjoyable and rewarding experience for each camper. The camper-to-instructor ratio will be kept low in order to provide the best possible instruction and attention to each camper.

The schedule is listed below:

• Advanced Hitting – June 9-10 - 9 a.m.- noon

• Advanced Defense – June 9-10 - 1-4 p.m.

• Advanced Pitching – June 11 – 9 a.m. - noon

• All Skills Camp – July 14-16 – 9 a.m. - noon

The cost of the camp is $100 for one session, with a price of $185 for both the hitting and defensive sessions.  All three camps will be offered for a cost of $245, while the all-skills camp is available at a price of $180.  There will be discounts for siblings and team members with a minimum of four players from the same team. The registration deadline is Wednesday, June 4.

The advanced hitting sessions will teach the experienced softball player the correct mechanics and mental approach necessary to be a successful batter, slapper, bunter, and base runner.  This clinic is designed for the advanced hitter who will be evaluated using a variety of techniques. The clinic will incorporate hitting drills designed to accelerate skill levels.

The advanced pitching session will review the fundamentals required to throw a pitch correctly, with the spin and velocity as on target as possible. Campers will work on locating all pitches as well as finding the pitch each player throws best.

The defensive session will teach the experienced softball player the necessary fundamentals to become a solid and reliable defender. Campers will develop proper mechanics in throwing, receiving, and fielding. Advanced individual work at a player’s specific position, including catchers, will be incorporated with the skills utilized at these positions.

The all-skills camp will teach the fundamentals of all aspects of the game: throwing, catching, hitting, slapping, bunting, baserunning, etc.  The camp will develop proper mechanics as well as situational thinking and will work at each player’s specific position.
