JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As a result of continuous in climate weather in the Jacksonville area and poor field conditions at the UNF Softball Complex, the rescheduled twin billing between FGCU (35-16, 16-7 A-Sun) and UNF has been cancelled. FGCU entered the weekend on a three game winning streak with the Eagles having won eight of their last nine.
Poor weather conditions washed out a doubleheader between the two teams that was supposed to be played on Friday, May 3 and kick off a three-game set between the two sides. The Eagles and Ospreys looked to salvage the series by playing two games on Saturday, May 4 beginning at 1 p.m., but continuous rain storms foiled those intentions.
With the regular season now complete, FGCU has clinched the No. 3 seed in the 2013 Atlantic Sun Tournament. The rainouts allowed UNF to remain atop of the A-Sun standings and clinch the regular season title to be crowned the 2013 regular season champions; a title FGCU received a share of during the 2012 season.
The No. 3 seed FGCU squad will take on a No. 6 seed Stetson squad that the Green and Blue swept earlier this season at the FGCU Softball Complex (Mar. 16-17). FGCU leads the all-time series 9-7 against Stetson with the Green and Blue having won three straight against their in-state foes. The Eagles will take on the Hatters on Wednesday, May 8 with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. EST from Draper Diamond in Nashville, Tenn. The tournament will be hosted by Lipscomb with the field of six teams to face-off in the double elimination tournament format.
