5/9/2008 Post-Season Honors Continue for Carmen Paez
The senior outfielder was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
5/7/2008 Paez Named A-Sun Player of the Year
The Atlantic Sun Conference office announced the 2008 softball awards and FGCUs Carmen Paez was named A-Sun Player of the Year. Her sister Jessica along with Cheyenne Jenks joined her on the first team while Morgan Campen and Courtney Platt earned All-Freshman team honors.

The FGCU softball dropped a double-header with the Hatters of Stetson. The Eagles are now 48-16 (16-6 A-Sun) on the season. The Eagles earned a share of first-place in the A-Sun with the losses.

The Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, announced today the 25 finalists for the 2008 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award. Senior Carmen Paez became the first Eagle to be named a finalist for the national honor.

After rain and darkness halted a game in each of its weekend doubleheaders, the FGCU softball team (40-8, 8-0 A-Sun) was finally able to resume action on Sunday. The Eagles rallied and went on defeat Belmont 5-4 before picking up their seventh consecutive victory, when they defeated Lipscomb 13-2 in five innings.

In double-header action, the Eagles held off a late surge by the Bruins in game one to win, 10-7, before BU worked on another come back in game two, coming within one run, 4-3, before the game was halted due to heavy rain.

The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team improved its record to 25-6 on Friday after a pair of wins over Southeast Missouri State and Eastern Illinois at the FAU Miken Classic. The Eagles defeated SEMO in game one by a score of 5-0 and EIU by a score of 2-1 in game two.

The FGCU softball team swept a double-header from Mount St. Mary's on Thursday night to extend their winning streak to 12. The Eagles won both games in convincing fashion with scores of 11-0 and 12-4; both games went final after five innings.

The FGCU softball team completed with a two-game sweep of St. Bonaventure on Tuesday at the FGCU Softball Complex. The Eagles won game one, 3-2, and game two 5-0.

The Florida Gulf Coast University softball team will participate in its third straight tournament as they get set to host the FGCU Spring Break Invitational. The Eagles head into this weekend's action with a record of 5-5. FGCU begins its tournament play Friday, Feb. 22 with doubleheader action against South Dakota State and Boston College starting at 6 p.m. against SDSU followed by an 8 p.m. matchup with Boston College.

1/31/2008 Carmen Paez Earns Spot On A-Sun Preseason Team, Eagles Predicted to Finish Sixth in Conference
Stetson, a team perennially near the top of the Atlantic Sun softball standings earned top billing from the conference coaches, edging out the 2007 regular-season champ Kennesaw State for the top spot in the 2008 preseason poll. The Hatters, who will host the Atlantic Sun Championship in May, overwhelmingly won the nod as the favorite to win the tournament.
12/13/2007 FGCU Softball Hires Alumni Ashley Spencer as Assistant
FGCU Softball Head Coach Dave Deiros has announced the hiring of Ashley Spencer (Cecil) as assistant softball coach. Spencer rejoins the staff at FGCU after serving as an assistant for the Eagles from 2005-07, when she helped Eagles compile a 120-17 record over that span.
11/27/2007 FGCU Softball Inks Trio for 2009
FGCU softball head coach David Deiros announced that three players have signed National Letters of Intent to attend FGCU next fall and play for the 2008-09 Eagle softball team, which finished last season with a 62-8 record and ranked No. 10 in the nation at the Division II level.
