FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU department of athletics will hold tryouts for the next Azul the Eagle on Tuesday, April 17 at 5 p.m. in Alico Arena. FGCU will be looking to replace the hardest working mascot in sports with a current or future FGCU student.
Interested students should contact Director of Corporate Sales & Marketing Denise Da Silveira at 239-590-7060 or email@example.com. Students can also contact Marketing and Corporate Sales Assistant Nick Mattar at 239-590-1312 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Azul is compensated $8.00 per hour, and may be eligible for a $1000 FGCU Foundation scholarship as deemed by the University Foundation. The scholarship began in 2010 because of the exceptional performance of Tyler Cole. Cole is graduating this month, and the search has begun for a new full-time mascot.
All candidates will be asked to perform a short skit (under two minutes) in the full costume. They will then be asked to do a series of moves and dances, and will be graded accordingly. Full tryout requirements are included in the attached PDF.
The student selected to represent Azul will premiere at the 2012 Eagle Revolution held on August 20. He or she will then perform at all home volleyball matches, men’s and women’s basketball games, and other events (both on and off-campus).
Azul will be held to the same academic standards as FGCU cheerleaders, and will practice with the cheer team during the year. He or she must hold at least a 2.0 GPA, and will be required to read and sign an official handbook outlining all rules and regulations.
A successful Azul will have the following attributes:
- Physical endurance
- Ability to dance and move rhythmically
- Respect for the secret Azul identity and FGCU Athletics as a whole
- Ability to work nights and weekends
