Each month during the school year, the FGCU Athletics Communication Office and Athletic Academic staff will choose a pair of Eagles – one male and one female – as the FGCU Athletics Scholar-Athletes of the Month. Those selected for the honor will have exhibited a combination of superior athletic and overall academic success, in particular to that month.

Hering currently carries a 3.55 GPA while majoring in Criminal Justice. The Melbourne, Fla., native has been named a three-time member of the Dean's List and a five-time Athletic Director's Honor Roll recipient, including this past fall semester. In addition, he has participated in the Academic Honors Luncheon last semester and this spring.

So far this spring in 26.2 innings, the right-handed pitcher holds a 3.71 ERA and boasts a record of 5-2. The Viera High School product and Eastern Florida State College transfer has held the opposition to a .280 batting average, and he leads the Green and Blue with six saves.

Marck-Sherk is pursuing an Exercise Science degree and currently boasts a 3.58 GPA. She has been named a five-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, and on three occasions has landed a spot on the Dean's List. She has also participated in the Academic Honors Luncheon twice.

In 23 rounds between the fall and spring, Marck-Sherk has produced a 76.39 average en route to a team-best five top-20 finishes, including a 12th-place finish at the MSU Citrus Classic that helped lead FGCU to its first outright tournament championship since 2008. Additionally, her best finish is a 4th-place showing at the WKU Spring Break Shootout. On Mar. 15, the Ontario native was named the ASUN Golfer of the Week, joining two other Eagles in giving the program's most ASUN Player of the Week awards since 2011. The Ridgeway Crystal Beach High School product and her teammates are in the middle of the ASUN Championship, with 2nd-round action taking place on Monday.

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 70 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 10+ seasons at the Division-I level. Additionally, in just 6+ seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had 33 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Seven FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best 6th-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. FGCU also collectively earned a 3.27 GPA in the classroom and served an all-time high 7,200+ volunteer hours – being recognized as one of two runner-ups for the inaugural NACAD Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
