FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU Department of Athletics has announced its monthly academic honorees for February. Baseball redshirt sophomore
Kohl Gilmore along with softball senior
Natalie Lopez were named Scholar-Athletes of the Month.
Each month during the school year, the FGCU Athletics Communication Office and Athletic Academic staff will choose a pair of Eagles – one male and one female – as the FGCU Athletics Scholar-Athletes of the Month. Those selected for the honor will have exhibited a combination of superior athletic and overall academic success, in particular to that month.
Gilmore currently carries a 3.68 GPA while majoring in Communications. This past fall, Gilmore landed a spot on the Dean's List, while also garnering a place on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
With the spring season in full effect, Gilmore is off to a hot start. At the plate, the Fort Pierce, Fla., native is batting .373 with 21 RBI, has scored 16 runs to go along with seven home runs after transferring in from Indian River State.
In addition, Gilmore was named the ASUN Player of the Week for his three-game performance against ETSU (Feb. 23-25), batting .636 with two doubles, three home runs, and five RBI.
Lopez is pursuing a Biology degree and currently boasts a 3.49 GPA. Lopez has been named a seven-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. In addition, the Westminster Christian product has landed a spot on the Dean's List each of the previous three semesters, including being a participant in the spring 2016 Scholar-Athlete Luncheon.
In a testament to her leadership on and off the diamond, Lopez strives in being a voice for not only her teammates but also for all of FGCU's student-athletes as the Secretary of the 2017-18 Eagles Council. The Miami native also served as a representative on last year's council.
Appearing in 10 games this season for the Green and Blue, Lopez registered 13 hits, seven runs and batted .500 before a knee injury ended her season.
