FGCU Athletics Schedule Updates Due To Hurricane Irma

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Due to Hurricane Irma, several FGCU Athletics events this past weekend were affected.

FGCU classes, operations and events are canceled from Thursday, Sept. 7, through at least Monday, Sept. 18. An update on upcoming FGCU games for the week of Sept. 11-17 will be announced when they become available.

    * The men's soccer team's home opener against VCU scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. has been canceled. The two teams attempted to play the game at VCU and also at a neutral setting in Georgia, but the uncertain track of Irma ultimately led to the decision for the game to be canceled.

    * Both the men's and women's golf teams will not be traveling to their season-opening tournaments. Both teams were supposed to head to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for respective Golfweek Program Challenge events Sunday-Tuesday. As of Wednesday afternoon, the tournament is still on as scheduled, but FGCU will not be competing.

    * The men's and women's cross country teams will not be traveling to the Stan Sims Invitational in Cartersville, Ga. – about 45 miles northwest of Atlanta. As of Wednesday afternoon, the meet is still on as scheduled, but FGCU will not be competing.

    * The volleyball team's tournament at Davidson (Friday and Saturday) and women's soccer team's games at Arizona (Friday) and Arizona State (Sunday) will be played as originally scheduled.

Due to the potential power outages associated with Hurricane Irma, there is a chance that scores, recaps and other updates to FGCUAthletics.com and corresponding social media accounts could be delayed.
