Public Invited To FGCU Basketball Alumni Game Saturday At Alico Arena

FORT MYERS, Fla. – As part of Florida Gulf Coast University's Alumni Weekend, the public is invited to attend the FGCU Basketball Alumni Game this Saturday, Feb. 20, at 12:30 p.m. inside Alico Arena.

In total, 23 former men's and women's basketball players spanning from the original 2002-03 season until as recently as last year are scheduled to return to campus and play in the game. The contest will be played in two, 20-minute running-clock halves.

On the men's side, Wallace, Kollmer, Brown and French were all members on FGCU's founding team in 2002-03. Watts and Liddell helped transition the Eagles into Division I, with Liddell – whose career rebound average of 7 per game is still the best in program history – having his senior year coincide with FGCU's first D-I season in 2007-08. Lutkenhaus, Christian and Murray – a Fort Myers native – aided in the Eagles' foray into D-I postseason eligibility, culminating with Murray's historic 2013 Sweet Sixteen team – the only 15 seed in NCAA Tournament history to win two games. Finally, Blake was part of three-straight postseason appearances for FGCU, beginning with the 2013 NCAA Tournament run, continuing with an NIT appearance in 2014 and a concluding with a CIT selection in 2015.

On the women's side, Dermyer, Lyles, Cobb and Iamstrong are all currently on the FGCU women's basketball coaching staff. Fleming was a member of the inaugural 2002-03 team which went an incredible 30-1, setting the tone for the immense success the program has achieved. Halliburton's 2005-06 squad was the first to play in the postseason as the Eagles went 29-2 and won a game in the D-II NCAA Tournament. The final D-II season in 2006-07 featured Pierce, Ali (formerly Haegele) and Dermyer leading the team to a 34-1 record, with the lone loss coming in the National Championship. Since moving to D-I in 2007-08, Jackson, Griffin, Brown, Butler and Kennedy – who still holds the single-season record for assists with 173 in 2012-13 – have all played in the postseason as the Eagles have been to the WNIT or NCAA Tournament in every year they've been eligible.

The game will be played in advance of a men's and women's doubleheader on Saturday which will also serve as Senior Day for both programs. The women (23-4, 11-0 A-Sun) – who have already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the A-Sun Championship – tip at 4 p.m. versus Kennesaw State, while the men (15-12, 6-5 A-Sun) face the Owls at 7 p.m.
