FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU Athletics has named women's soccer player Shea Rhoney (Lithia, Fla./Newsome HS) and men's cross-country runner Courtland Bernard (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota HS) as recipients of the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athletes of the Month Award for the month of November.
 
Each month during the school year, the FGCU Athletics Communications Office and Athletic Academic staff will choose a pair of Eagles as the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athlete of the Month. Those selected for the honor will have exhibited a combination of superior athletic and overall academic success.

Rhoney is a junior majoring in biology and has logged a 3.90 GPA during her time at FGCU. On the field she is one of the anchors on the FGCU defensive back-line. The junior logged a team-best 1903 minutes making her the only player on the roster not to exit a game this season. As a captain, she helped guide the Green and Blue to a fifth-straight Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championship and a to a second NCAA Tournament appearance where the Eagles became the first program in school history to host and NCAA Tournament match.

Bernard is a sophomore nursing major and currently holds a 3.86 GPA. He was an A-Sun Academic All-Conference selection this season and finished 20th overall at the A-Sun Championship race with a time of 26:20.92 in the 8k trek. At the NCAA South Regional Championship the sophomore placed 103rd with a career 10K-best time of 32:37.40. He helped guide the Eagles to a program-best fourth-place finish at the A-Sun Championships.
