FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU Athletics has named volleyball player Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) and men's tennis player Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS) as recipients of the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athletes of the Month Award for the month of September.

Each month during the school year, the FGCU Athletics Communications Office and Athletic Academic staff will choose a pair of Eagles as the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athlete of the Month. Those selected for the honor will have exhibited a combination of superior athletic and overall academic success.

Meyer is a senior communications major with a minor in marketing and advertising and has logged a 3.83 GPA during her time in Green and Blue. She has also been named to the Dean's List four times and to the President's List twice. As the volleyball team's setter, Meyer has facilitated the Eagle offense this season and has led the team to a record of 11-7 with a 5-0 mark in Atlantic Sun play. Meyer has compiled 713 assists on the year and set two program records for the Eagles. Early in the year, Meyer became the all-time career leader for career assists and she set the program's Division I record with 68 assists against UNF. She recently produced 49 assists in a four-set match at Bethune-Cookman and led the team to an attack percentage of .331.

Beiler is a redshirt-junior communications major with a public relations concentration and has produced a 3.44 GPA during his time at FGCU. He has also been named to the Dean's List three times. The Palm Harbor native captured two runner-up finishes at the Georgia Tech Invite in late September. The team's co-captain defeated Evan Holvoet of Kenensaw State (7-6, 7-6), Oliver Poysti of UAB (6-0, 6-3) and Drew Wendel of Kennesaw State (2-6, 6-3,6-0) en route to the final round of the Buzz Group singles draw. Beiler also teamed up with redshirt sophomore Chris Perrigan to reach the final round of the Buzz Group doubles, defeating Gochnauer of Georgia State and Paiste of UAB (8-6) and Poysti/Pinto of UAB 8-7(3).
