Trailing by nearly 12,000 votes at 10 a.m. Thursday, Azul the Eagle made a furious push over the final six hours of voting as FGCU fans swung the vote count by nearly 27,000 before the competition ended at 4 p.m., and when it was completed Azul had triumphed over Kennesaw State's Scrappy the Owl in the Atlantic Sun Mascot Cup to retain his title as Most Valuable Mascot in the A-Sun.

ATLANTA -- The FGCU women's basketball team added to its list of achievements from the 2013-14 season last week with a position on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Academic Team Honor Roll. The program finished the academic year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.521 to rank 11th among all NCAA Division I programs.
