FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team will continue conference play this week when they host USC Upstate and ETSU. The Eagles will face USC Upstate on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. match against ETSU on Saturday.

The Green and Blue enter this weekend with a 8-7 record and 3-1 in conference play. FGCU went 1-1 in conference play last weekend when they fell to Mercer, 4-3 but bounced back with a dominating 6-1 victory over Kennesaw State on Saturday. The Eagles went 5-6 through non-conference action with featured wins over Oklahoma State, UConn and FAU.

FGCU has won six of its last nine matches.

Sophomore Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) has won nine of his last 10 matches at the top spot in the lineup, leading a singles charge that has gone 37-18 over the last nine matches. Vives, sophomore Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS-FL) and junior Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) make up the half of the lineup that has combined to go 23-4 over the last eight matches. Tsamas, who won five straight prior to facing No. 67 Miami, leads the team with a 12-3 record, while Vives (9-3) and Bao (9-6) both have nine wins.

The Eagles are winless against both teams since the Green and Blue joined the A-Sun in the 2007/08 season. USC Upstate leads the all-time series at 4-0 with the Spartans winning the most recent matchup 6-1, last season in Spartanburg, S.C. ETSU leads the all-time series at 5-0 with the Bucs defeating the Eagles, 7-0 last year in Johnson City, Tenn.

The Spartans come into Thursday match with a 6-8 record this season and a conference record of 0-2. USC Upstate has picked up featured wins against Georgia Southern, Elon and Texas Pan-America and have conference losses to ETSU and North Florida.

ETSU is currently 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in A-Sun action. The Bucs will face Stetson in DeLand on Thursday before they make the trip down to Fort Myers for Saturday’s matchup. The Bucs have had notable victories against then-No. 60 ranked Georgia State, then No. 71 UL-Lafayette, Appalachian State and USC Upstate.
