FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team is prepared for a pair of Atlantic Sun conference matches on the road this weekend. The Eagles will take on USC-Upstate on Friday, Mar. 23 at 10 a.m. in Spartanburg, S.C. and ETSU on Saturday, Mar. 24 at 11 a.m in Johnson City, Tenn.
“This is going to be the toughest weekend of the season thus far,” said first-year head coach C.J. Weber. “Being on the road in the conference is a big challenge and we’re going to have to be very tough to be successful.”
The Eagles (5-4, 2-0 A-Sun) took down Mercer, 4-3, on Mar. 15 to remain unblemished in conference. The Green and Blue also have non-conference wins against Georgia Southern (5-2), Bethune-Cookman (5-2) and SIU-Edwardsville (7-0).
Sophomore Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) leads the team with a 7-2 dual match record and is 5-2 at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Lance Lvovsky (Dania,Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) has a 6-3 dual match mark, playing mostly at No. 5 singles. Junior Jackson Moore (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS/Georgia State) is riding a three-match winning streak and is 6-2 in dual matches.
In doubles, Lvovsky and Matt Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS/Jacksonville University) lead the team with a 5-4 dual match record.
USC-Upstate enters the match with a 7-6 (0-2 A-Sun) record after dropping matches against North Florida (6-1) and Jacksonville (5-2). The Spartans are led by Ramiro Blanco with a 9-2 dual match record, including a 6-2 mark at No. 1 singles.
ETSU (4-8, 2-0 A-Sun) has won four straight matches and won both A-Sun contests last weekend against Jacksonville (7-0) and UNF (4-3). The Bucs rallied back from being down 3-2 against UNF to win the final two matches for the victory. Sander Gille leads ETSU with a 6-5 dual match record, including a 3-0 mark at No. 2 singles.
