Men's Tennis Hosts First-Ever Night Match to Open A-Sun Play Versus Kennesaw State
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Set to host its first-ever night match, the FGCU men’s tennis team is looking forward to face Atlantic Sun rival Kennesaw State on Thursday, Mar. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the A-Sun home opener at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
The Eagles (2-3) are looking to begin conference season with an exclamation point as they have two non-conference wins against Georgia Southern (W, 5-2) and Bethune-Cookman (W, 5-2). FGCU hopes to secure its first-ever win to open conference play as the Green and Blue are 0-4 in conference openers since 2008.
“This match is going to show what college tennis is all about,” said head coach C.J. Weber. “Kennesaw has put together a great season and it is going to be a really tough test for us to start out conference season. With this being a night match it will add a whole new element to the match and hopefully it will provide an electric atmosphere for the guys to compete in.”
Sophomores Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) and Lance Lvovsky (Dania,Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) each have four-match winnings streaks heading into the contest with 4-1 dual match records to lead the team.
Junior Jackson Moore (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS/Georgia State) is 3-1 after losing his last match against FAU. In doubles, Lvovsky and Matt Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS/Jacksonville University) lead the team with a 2-3 dual match record.
Kennesaw State comes into the match with a 5-4 record after dropping a match last weekend against Chattanooga (L, 6-1) on the road. The Owls have wins over Georgia Southern (W, 6-1), Presbyterian (W, 5-2), Alabama State (W, 7-0), Alabama A&M (W, 7-0) and Norfolk State (W, 6-1). Freshman Alex Toliver leads the Owls with a 4-4 record at No. 1 singles.
