FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team will open the 2012 dual match season at home by hosting SMU on Friday and FAMU on Saturday at the FGCU Tennis Complex, both starting at 1 p.m.
“We’re very excited to be hosting both SMU and FAMU to open the season,” said first-year head coach C.J. Weber. “Both teams will be very successful this year and it’ll be a great barometer for where we stand.”
Competing for the Eagles will be senior Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS/Jacksonville), juniors Collin Brown (Victoria, Texas/Memorial HS) and Jackson Moore (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS/Georgia State), sophomores Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) and Lance Lvovsky (Dania,Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville), in addition to freshmen Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS) and Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS).
SMU comes into the match with a 1-1 record after defeating UT-Pan American, 7-0, last weekend at the Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas, Texas. The Mustangs lost their dual match opener to No. 19 Texas, 5-2, on Jan. 15.
FAMU is 0-3 on the season after dropping two matches last weekend against FAU (4-3) and No. 33 Miami (4-3). The Rattlers lost 7-0 to No. 44 Florida State back on Jan. 16.
