FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team will complete its fall season at the UCF Invitational this weekend in Orlando, Fla. at the UCF Tennis Complex. The competition gets underway on Friday morning and concludes on Sunday afternoon.
The tournament format will be a round robin event, which places FGCU against players from power schools Arkansas, Miami, Auburn and host UCF.
“The guys have stayed focused and have been working so hard this entire fall,” said head coach C.J. Weber. “To end the fall in a tournament with such steep competition is exactly what we’re looking for. Each of these schools will be ranked this year, so it’s a great opportunity for us to size ourselves up against the best.”
The Eagles will be traveling seven student-athletes to the tournament with senior Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS/Jacksonville) and sophomore Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) leading the team this fall with three victories apiece. Freshman Tianyu Bao (Bradenton, Fla./Bayshore HS) has a 2-2 record in four matches.
Senior Steve Binninger (St. Augustine, Fla./Saint Joseph Academy HS), junior Collin Brown (Victoria, Texas/Memorial HS), freshman Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS) and sophomore Lance Lvovsky (Dania,Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) round out the competitors for FGCU this weekend.
