TAMPA, Fla. – Led by junior Gabriel Echeverry (Popayan, Columbia/Gimnasio Calibio) and freshman Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS), the FGCU men’s tennis team finished Day Two at the State of Florida Championships hosted by the University of South Florida, with a pair of convincing singles wins on Saturday
The men’s tennis team was delayed by numerous rain delays before having play suspended.
Echeverry earned a straight-sets win against Florida Atlantic’s Robbie Dubuque, 6-2, 7-6. It was Echeverry’s first of the fall season.
Beiler picked up a straight-sets win against Timo Kranz, from North Florida, 6-3, 7-5. Beiler earned his first collegiate victory for the Eagles.
“Today was a frustrating day because of the rain,” said head coach C.J. Weber. “We didn’t get to play as many matches as we would have liked but I’m really proud of Michael (Beiler), getting his first win as an Eagle. “We need to continue to learn how to build and grow together.”
FGCU’s three-day stint at the State of Florida Championships will conclude tomorrow in Tampa beginning at 10 a.m.
