FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s and women’s tennis teams will return to Atlantic Sun Conference action as they head to Johnson City, Tenn. for dual matches with ETSU on Friday. The men will take the court beginning at 1 p.m. with the women following at 2:30 p.m.
Holding a 3-14 (1-6 A-Sun) record, the FGCU men will travel seniors Steve Binninger (St. Augustine, Fla./Saint Joseph Academy), Carlo Checchia (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Ceteb/Coastal Carolina University), Mitchell Lvovsky (Dania Beach, Fla./Keystone HS/Wingate University) and Frank Aceirno (Palm Coast, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast HS), junior Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Jacksonville University), sophomores Collin Brown (Tallahassee, Fla./Florida State University School) and Gabriel Echeverry (Popayan, Columbia/Gimnasio Calibio), as well as, freshman Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS).
Currently riding a five-match winning streak and holding a 9-5 (4-3 A-Sun) overall record, the women’s squad will include senior Iris Rendon (San Antonio, Texas/Tyler Junior College), junior Jen Evans (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS), sophomores Bibiana Almeida (Porto, Portugal/Schiller International School) and Morgan Bechtel (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy), as well as, freshmen Bettina Botha (Cape Town, South Africa/De Kuilen HS) and Gyanna Mandic (Oshowa, Canada/Edison Academies).
With A-Sun wins over USC Upstate (4-3), Jacksonville (7-0), Belmont (7-0) and Lipscomb (6-1), the ETSU men’s team comes into the match with a 10-6 (4-1 A-Sun) record, dropping their lone league match with then-No. 72 UNF (5-2).
The Bucs’ women’s team holds an 8-6 (5-1 A-Sun) mark with conference victories over Jacksonville (5-2), Belmont (7-0), Lipscomb (7-0), Campbell (5-2) and USC Upstate (6-1). Their only conference loss was in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of UNF to open league play.
