FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team will open the home portion of the 2011 spring season by hosting FAU. The dual match begins on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
FGCU comes into the match holding a 0-2 record, while the Owls are 3-3 and are coming off a 4-3 win over USF last Sunday.
Competing for the Eagles will be seniors Steve Binninger (St. Augustine, Fla./Saint Joseph Academy), Carlo Checchia (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Ceteb/Coastal Carolina University) and Mitchell Lvovsky (Dania Beach, Fla./Keystone HS/Wingate University), junior Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Jacksonville University), sophomores Collin Brown (Tallahassee, Fla./Florida State University School) and Gabriel Echeverry (Popayan, Columbia/Gimnasio Calibio), as well as, freshman Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS).
The Eagles got off to a rocky start to the spring when they traveled to Tampa, Fla. for a pair of dual matches. The Blue and Green fell to host USF, 7-0, and then to FAMU the following day, 6-1. Echeverry picked up the lone singles victory against the Rattlers.
