Singles Play Helps FGCU Close Strong At ITA Regional
|
|
Rock rebounded from his straight-set loss on Thursday in a big way, cruising past USF’s Sebastian Hagan, 6-2, 6-1 for a straight-set victory of his own in the singles consolation bracket.
After a busy Friday in which he played in a pair of doubles matches, Tsamas returned to the court in the singles consolation bracket to take on Mercer’s Fernando Armendaris. Tsamas took the first set, 6-1, and was up 1-0 in the second before Armendaris retired from the match.
Senior Carlo Checchia (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Ceteb/Coastal Carolina) was the only other player in action for FGCU on Saturday, as he fell to FSU’s Blake Davis, 6-0, 6-1.
FGCU’s three-day stint at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional concludes the fall portion of its schedule. The Eagles will return to the court for their championship season in the spring by hosting the FGCU Spring Tournament from January 7-9.
