Thursday, February 04, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team will open conference play on Saturday when they host the Hatters of Stetson at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The dual match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

The Eagles (0-3) opened the 2010 dual match with three tough matches, starting with a trip to Tampa to take on the 37th-ranked South Florida Bulls. USF defeated FGCU 6-1, but Thibaud Aime (Figeac, France) was impressive, defeating Jamal Adderley, the 64th-ranked singles player in the country. The Blue and Green then travelled to Tallahassee where they lost to South Alabama and Georgia Southern.

Stetson (1-0) had their season opener against No. 21 Miami rained out before sweeping Bethune-Cookman 7-0 on Jan. 26. The Hatters were picked second in the Atlantic Sun Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while the Eagles were voted ninth.

This is the second consecutive season that FGCU will begin A-Sun play against Stetson. Last year the Hatters swept the Eagles 7-0 in DeLand. Stetson was ranked No. 63 in the nation at the time.

The dual match is set for a 10 a.m. start at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Admission is free to the public.
