FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team will wrap up a busy opening week with a pair of matches on Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla. The Eagles will take on South Alabama at 11 a.m. followed by a match with either No. 13 Florida State or Georgia Southern at 3 p.m.
The first match of the day will see Georgia Southern play the host Seminoles at 9 a.m., followed by FGCU’s match with South Alabama at 11 a.m. The winners will play in the championship, while the losers will play in the consolation match. Both the championship and consolation matches will begin at 3 p.m.
On Tuesday, FGCU (0-1) lost at No. 37 South Florida, 6-1, in the season-opening dual match for both schools. Thibaud Aime (Figeac, France) performed well, defeating Jamal Adderley, the 64th-ranked singles player in the nation, 6-0, 4-6, 10-8. Aime also teamed up with Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) to win at the number one doubles position over Thomas Estrada and Romain Derrider, 8-7.
South Alabama and No. 13 Florida State will both be playing their first dual matches of the season on Saturday. Georgia Southern comes in at 0-1 after losing 5-2 at No. 43 Georgia Tech in their season opener on Sunday.
The Eagles will have a two-week break before hosting Stetson in their A-Sun opener on Saturday, February 6. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
