Men's Tennis Set to Host FGCU Invitational

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team will start off 2010 by hosting the FGCU Invitational, a four-team tournament that features a pair of top-15 teams. Illinois, Florida State, and Florida Atlantic will make the trip to Southwest Florida for the event, which is scheduled for Friday at the FGCU Tennis Complex and Saturday at Rutenburg Park in Fort Myers.

Individuals will be placed into singles and doubles flights with competitors from all four schools. Florida State (13) and Illinois (15) are both ranked in the top 15 of the ITA preseason poll. Illinois boasts the No. 2 doubles team in the nation with Dennis Nevolo and Marek Czerwinski.

The event begins Friday, January 15, with matches taking place at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The opening matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and run until approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, the tournament moves to Rutenberg Park in Fort Myers. Matches will again start at 9 a.m. and wrap up at approximately 4 p.m. Directions to Rutenberg Park are listed below.

From the north (via I-75)

Take I-75 South to Exit 131, Daniels Parkway. Go west (right) on Daniels Parkway for 4.7 miles. Daniels Parkway becomes Cypress Lake Drive as you cross US 41. Continue on Cypress Lake Drive for 2.2 miles. Rutenberg Park will be on your right hand side (turn right on South Pointe Boulevard to access parking lot).

From the south (via I-75)

Take I-75 North to Exit 131, Daniels Parkway. Go west (left) on Daniels Parkway for 4.7 miles. Daniels Parkway becomes Cypress Lake Drive as you cross US 41.
