LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Edson Lima and sophomore Ervin Garibovic traveled up to the University of Kentucky to take part in the 2008 Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday.  The two paired up to take on the doubles team Benedikt Fischer and Leon Nasemann from the University of Memphis, with Fischer and Nasemann coming out on top in a very hard-fought match, 9-7.  After the match head coach J. Webb Horton said, “This was a tight match decided by just one break.  I don’t think we could’ve played much better.  They [Fischer/Nasemann] played a very strong match.”

In the singles tournament, Edson Lima fell to Auburn’s Lukas Marsoun in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.  Ervin Garibovic lost the first set in a tiebreak to Florida’s Erik Corace 6-7 (2), but battled back to take the second set, again settled by a tiebreak, 7-6 (4).  In the third and decisive set, Garibovic earned the win, 6-4.  By virtue of the win, Ervin earned the right to take on Jamie Hunt from the University of Georgia.  Hunt is the 6th seed in the tournament and is currently ranked 23rd in the ITA rankings.  Garibovic was able to fight through the first set and win in a tiebreak 7-6 (5), before losing the second and third sets, 6-0, 6-1.  Afterwards, coach Horton summed up the day saying, “Overall we played well.  Edson didn’t play bad at all; he just lost to quality tennis player.  And I was extremely proud of the way Ervin battled all day long, especially in defeating Corace.  That was a very hard-fought match and I was so pleased to see Ervin come out on top.  He really earned it.  This was a very good experience for us to see the level of play in the southeast region, and to allow us an opportunity to compete.”

The Eagles final fall tournament will be the UCF Invitational beginning October 31st.  The tournament runs through November 2nd.
