No. 19 Men's Tennis falls to No. 1 Drury

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The No. 19 Florida Gulf Coast University men’s tennis team fell to No. 1 Drury University 5-2 at the FGCU Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon. The Panthers (8-0) opened with a pair of victories in two of the three doubles matches and closed out the dual match with singles victories at the second, fourth and fifth spots in the lineup. Drury features two doubles teams ranked in the top-nine nationally and three singles players ranked among the top-36 players in Division II. In each of its two losses, FGCU (12-2) has fallen to teams ranked among the top six in NCAA Division II. The loss snapped an 11-match win streak for FGCU. The Eagles top doubles tandem of seniors Juan Carlos Osorio (Quito, Ecuador) and Tim Offerman (Hamburg, Germany) picked up the lone FGCU doubles win to improve to 11-2 on the year. Freshman Edson Lima (Brasilia, Brazil) was a winner at #6 singles to improve to 13-0. Lima’s win streak is the highest freshman win total in FGCU tennis history. Both Osorio at #1 singles and sophomore Gavin Manders (Warwick, Bermuda) at #4 singles were leading but the matches were unfinished when Drury reached the match-clinching fifth win. FGCU will face #2 Ouachita Baptist on Wednesday in Tampa at 2 p.m.
