FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s tennis team has been ranked among the top-20 programs in Division II in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Rankings. The Eagles men are ranked 17th nationally and fifth in the Southeast Region heading into the spring season. Last year the men finished ninth nationally and advanced to the NCAA Division II Southeast Region semifinals. As they look for their second straight NCAA tournament appearance, FGCU will look to two of the top ranked singles players in the country to lead the way. Senior Juan Carlos Osorio, who was the national runner-up in the ITA Division II Singles Championships this fall, will begin the spring season ranked No. 3 in the nation and first in the Southeast Region for singles players. Junior Alberto Gutierrez, who advanced to the ITA Southeast Region quarterfinals before losing to Osorio, is ranked 46th nationally and ninth in the region. Osorio and senior Tim Offerman start the year as the No. 7 doubles tandem in the Southeast. The Eagles open up their season on February 4 in a men’s and women’s doubleheader at Webber International at 11 a.m.
