FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis was shut out by ETSU, 7-0, on Saturday in the home regular season finale at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

The Green and Blue falls to 9-8 (4-2 A-Sun) on the season and ETSU improves to 7-6 (3-1 A-Sun).

"ETSU came out here ready to play today. We could have had a better result in doubles and maybe that would have given us a little momentum, but they just really took it to us in singles," said head coach C.J. Weber. "We won't dwell on this result however. We'll get right back to work to prepare for Bethune-Cookman and UNF next weekend."

The Eagles lost the doubles point to fall behind 1-0 in the match. sophomore Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) and junior Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS)  were defeated by Jesus Bandres and Rogerio Ribeiro, 8-4, in the No. 1 doubles. The duo of sophomore Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS-FL) and junior Lance Lvovsky (Dania, Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) took the only victory for FGCU, defeating Juan Ramirez and Jorge Varon, 8-7 (5), in the No. 2 spot. ETSU took the doubles point when the team of Roger Ordeig and Ricardo Pabon defeated sophomore Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS) and senior Collin Brown (Victoria, Texas/Memorial HS), 8-5.

In singles action, ETSU took a commanding 3-0 lead after victories at No. 5 and No. 2 singles in straight sets. Lvovsky lost to Ordeig, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles and Bao fell to Ribeiro, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.

ETSU won the match when Tsamas went down in straight sets when Ramirez defeated him, 6-3, 6-2.

Pabon won in straight sets against Beiler, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 6 singles to make it a 5-0 advantage.

Senior Jackson Moore (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS/Georgia State) and Vives fought hard in their matches and both went to the third set. Moore fell to Varon, 7-5, 4-6, 10-2 while Vives almost pulled out the victory but lost to Badres, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-8 in three hard fought matches.

FGCU will be back in action Saturday, April 6, when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on Bethune-Cookman at 11 a.m.
