TAMPA, Fla. – Facing its third ranked opponent and seventh team this season that has appeared in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Tournament 48 projections, the FGCU men’s soccer team couldn’t find its rhythm on Tuesday night as is it fell at No. 13 USF, 3-0, in its non-conference finale at Corbett Soccer Stadium.

Just two days removed from playing to a 2-2 draw with UCF over 110 minutes, the Eagles now stand at 3-4-1 after their challenging non-conference slate and will enjoy a much-needed eight days away from game action before they turn their attention to the start of Atlantic Sun action.

USF, who improved to 6-2-1 on the year, scored a pair of goals by the 35th minute and added one more in the second half for the 3-0 win. It was the fourth meeting between the two programs, as the Bulls now have a 3-1 edge in the all-time series.

Sophomore keeper Nathan Ingham (Ontario, Canada/Keswick HS) made three of his four saves in a busy first half in which the Bulls jumped out to the 2-0 lead, holding an 8-3 edge in shots and 3-0 margin in corner kicks.

Trailing 3-0 after a USF goal at the 64:38 mark, FGCU did apply some pressure over the game’s final 25 minutes. The Eagles put three of their four shots over the final 25 minutes on frame with freshman defender Aaron Guillen (Chihuahua, Mexico/Coronado HS (Texas)) ringing one off the post in the 75th minute.

FGCU entered the game with a 3-1-1 record in its last five games and hadn’t been shutout since the opening weekend of the season when it took on back-to-back ranked opponents on the road at Akron and Georgetown. The Eagles are now 2-1 at Corbett Soccer Stadium this season, picking up a pair of wins over MAAC favorite Iona (2-0) and Conference USA favorite South Carolina (3-0) earlier in the year at the USF Tournament.

FGCU will begin the defense of its back-to-back A-Sun regular season crowns and 2011 A-Sun Tournament title on Thursday, Oct. 4, at the league’s newest member Northern Kentucky. It will be the home opener and the first-ever A-Sun game for the Norse with kick-off slated for 7 p.m.
