FORT MYERS, Fla. – Earning the program’s second victory over a top 10 opponent last weekend, the FGCU men’s soccer team returned to the national rankings on Tuesday, appearing at No. 25 according to Goal.com.

With the 2-1 victory over No. 8 UCF last Saturday in Orlando, Fla., the Eagles earned their way back into the national top 25. The Green and Blue entered the season with a preseason ranking of No. 14 according to the media outlet.

FGCU was also listed in the receiving votes section of the NSCAA top 25, earning five votes (37th overall), as well as, No. 4 in the media outlet’s South Region rankings. The Green and Blue also came in at No. 40 in this week’s Tournament 48 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

The win over the Knights improved the Eagles’ record to 3-2-2 on the year and marked the program’s second-ever victory over a top 10 foe. FGCU also improved to 3-2 all-time against opponents ranked in the top 25 nationally.

With five points each, the Eagles are led by senior Francesco DiStefano (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola HS) and junior Andres Navas (Miami, Fla./Sunset Senior HS/FIU), who each hold two goals and an assist, as well as, senior Josey Portillo (Metairie, La./Grace King HS) with a goal and a trio of assists. Senior Cristian Raudales (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee HS) has matched DiStefano and Navas’ goal total, to lead the team.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley HS) has played all 670 minutes in net this season for the Eagles, totaling 26 saves while allowing eight goals. His 1.07 goals against average currently ranks second in the A-Sun, while the .765 save percentage is good for third in the league. With a pair of shutouts this season, Glick sits in a tie for third in A-Sun history with 18 and is just five away from the record set by Jeff Cassar of FIU (1992-95).

The Eagles are preparing for the A-Sun opener at Stetson on Friday, Sept. 30, in DeLand, Fla. beginning at 7 p.m. The Hatters enter the contest holding a 3-4-1 record, having defeated then-No. 15 Penn State, 3-2, earlier this season. FGCU holds an all-time mark of 2-1-1 in A-Sun openers, while Stetson leads the series, 3-1.

Fellow A-Sun member ETSU landed at No. 22 by Goal.com, in addition to No. 24 in the NSCAA poll and No. 3 in the outlet’s South Region ranks.
