FORT MYERS, Fla. – For the second time in an eight-day span the FGCU Men’s soccer team will compete against a top 10 opponent as they travel to Orlando, Fla. to take on No. 8 UCF on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex. It will be mark the fifth time in the last six games that the Eagles have played away from home.

With a record of 2-2-2, the Friday contest against UCF will be the second meeting with a top 10 opponent this season for the Eagles. The Green and Blue fell to No. 5 UC Irvine, 2-1, last Friday at the USF Tournament, surrendering back-to-back goals separated by just over a minute in the first half. Last Sunday, the Eagles posted their second shutout of season in a 1-0 victory over Saint Louis in the tournament’s final contest.

Senior goalkeeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley HS) picked up his 28th career victory and 18th career shutout in the 1-0 win over the Billikens. The netminder has sent away 23 shots this season with a save percentage of .767, while ranking second in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a goals against of 1.09. Glick is currently tied for third all-time in shutouts in A-Sun history, just five away from Jeff Cassar of FIU (1992-95).

Eight different players have combined to score the Eagles’ nine goals this season. Senior midfielder Francesco DiStefano (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola HS) leads the team with a pair of goals, netting game-winners against Rhode Island and Saint Louis. Meanwhile, senior midfielder Josey Portillo (Metairie, La./Grace King HS) leads the team with five points on a goal and three assists.

In recent weeks the Eagles have garnered some recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Improving on their No. 8 rank from last week, the Green and Blue came in at No. 6 in the NSCAA South Region rankings in the latest release of the poll. Also appearing on the poll, UCF was slotted in the No. 2 position. The A-Sun landed three teams on the list, with ETSU coming in at No. 3 and Mercer landing the No. 10 spot.

The Knights have outscored their opponents 18-5 this season, holding an average of 2.57 goals per contest which ranks ninth nationally. Sophomore McKauly Tulloch leads the country with nine goals on the year, while junior Nik Robson has totaled three goals and four assists. UCF's back line has recorded three shutouts this season, while junior goalkeeper Shawn Doyle holds a 0.57 goals against average, which ranks 20th nationally. With an unblemished record of 6-0-1, UCF is 3-0 against the A-Sun Conference this season, earning wins over Jacksonville (2-1), Belmont (3-1) and North Florida (3-0).

Friday’s contest will mark the first meeting between the programs. The Eagles are 2-2 all-time against Conference USA opponents, with all four contests coming against FIU.
