FORT MYERS, Fla. – The 2-1 victory over regionally-ranked FIU on Friday was enough to move the FGCU men’s soccer team up one spot into sixth place in the NSCAA South Region rankings and earn the squad a pair of votes in the NSCAA/HendrickCars.com National Top 25 Rankings, announced by the media outlet on Tuesday.
For the second consecutive week, and third time this season, the Blue and Green have appeared in the South Region poll. After opening the season 2-0, the Blue and Green were tabbed fifth in the South Region in the first regular season poll, and were slotted seventh in the region last week following the 1-1 draw with Drexel and the thrilling 1-0 defeat of then-No. 5 Ohio State at the Embassy Suites Kick-Off Classic.
Topping the South Region rankings for the fourth straight week is North Carolina, followed by second place Duke. South Carolina moved up to the third spot this week, with Wake Forest and the College of Charleston in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Sitting at 4-2-2, the Eagles turn their attention to Atlantic Sun conference play with a pair of road contests in Nashville, Tenn. FGCU will begin by taking on Lipscomb on Friday, Oct. 1 at 8:30 p.m. followed by a Sunday afternoon (Oct. 3) meeting with Belmont beginning at 1:05 p.m.
