FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s soccer team will begin preparations for the 2009 season, the third campaign in program history, on Saturday, August 15 when it assembles at the FGCU Soccer Complex for its first practice.
Head coach Bob Butehorn begins his third season at the helm of the Eagles, and welcomes back a total of 17 letterwinners, including all 11 starters, from last year's team. The 2008 FGCU squad finished with an overall record of 6-10-2 and placed seventh in the A-Sun with a 3-5-1 league ledger.
This season, Butehorn has six juniors, 12 sophomores and 10 freshmen on the 28-man roster.
Fans can get their first look at the 2009 FGCU men’s soccer team on Tuesday, August 18, at 6 p.m. ET, when the Eagles will host Florida Southern in exhibition action at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
The Blue and Green will open the 2009 season on Tuesday, September 1, with a match on the road at Florida International. FGCU will open the home portion of the regular season four days later (Saturday, September 5) with a 7:00 p.m. match against the nationally ranked USF Bulls.
