FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s soccer team will face the Venezuelan U-17 National Team and the United States U-17 National Team at the FGCU Soccer Complex. The game against the Venezuelans will be on Monday, March 16 at 7 pm, and the Eagles will face the U.S. team on Saturday, March 21 at 6:30 pm.
Monday’s game is part of the Venezuelan team’s preparation for the qualification rounds of the U-17 World Cup, to be held later this year in Nigeria. The U.S. National Team is also preparing for World Cup qualification.
Junior Olympic Skills Competition to Be Held before U.S.-FGCU Match
In addition to the game between the Eagles and the U.S. U-17s on March 21, the FGCU Soccer Complex will host the Junior Olympic Skills Competition. In coordination with the Boys and Girls Club of Lee County, the Bonita Springs YMCA and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southwest Florida, the men’s and women’s soccer teams will host a brief clinic and the Skills Competition at 4 pm, prior to that evening’s 6:30 pm match.
Boys and girls ages 8-13 are invited to participate in the Junior Olympic Skills Competition and the winners will move on to the regional event. Registration for the Skills Competition is free, and all participants will get a ticket to the men’s game against the U.S. National Team that evening. The FGCU women’s soccer team will be playing a series of exhibition games beginning at noon and concluding just before the Skills Competition on March 21.
