FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer fell to the Hatters of Stetson by the score of 1-0 on Saturday night.
With the loss the Eagles drop to 2-8-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the A-Sun, while Stetson improves to 4-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the A-Sun.
The first period was played evenly until FGCU was penalized for taking one of the Hatters down in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for Stetston. Robert Hodge stepped up and knocked a shot past Adam Glick (Leola, Pa.) to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead with less than three minutes remaining in the half.
The young Eagles fought hard in the second half, having several good opportunities to tie the score but came up short as the Hatters took the victory.
Stetson goalkeeper Mark Galizia stopped four shots and picked up the shutout while Glick notched four stops in the loss.
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend when they host A-Sun foes North Florida and Jacksonville. The Eagles will face UNF on October 17 and take on Jacksonville on October 19.
