Eagles and #9 Buckeyes Postponed Until Saturday
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Constant lightning around Columbus Friday night has forced the postponement of the Ohio State vs. Florida Gulf Coast men’s soccer match in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The game was halted with 13:15 remaining in the first half and the score tied, 0-0.
The match will resume at 2 p.m. Saturday. Because of the Ohio State home football game against Youngstown State set for noon in nearby Ohio Stadium, fans attending the soccer match are encouraged to allow extra time for parking and travel as there will be no parking spaces available around Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The ninth-ranked Buckeyes and Eagles were playing the second game of the Bert and Iris Wolstein Classic. Earlier Friday, Penn State defeated Central Florida, 2-0. There was a 20 minute lightning delay in that match, as well, causing the Ohio State match to be delayed 15 minutes from its scheduled 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Lightning moved into the Columbus area and the match went into a delay at 8:20 p.m. It was hoped that the match could be completed Friday night, but the lightning did not subside within the mandated three-hour rule in which a match must be resumed after kickoff.
